Three UL Lafayette nursing students recently received news that will make completing their demanding degree a little easier, at least from a financial standpoint. Since 1989 Woman’s Foundation has honored one of its founding board members through supporting the education of local nursing students.

This year marks the first time in the history of the Frem F. Boustany Jr., M.D. Memorial Nursing Scholarship that funds were also allocated for a student in the advanced nursing degree program. Selected for this honor was Carla A. Vidrine, who is currently entering her final year of the program. Ms. Vidrine received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in the fall of 2008. Upon graduation she joined Lafayette’s healthcare community caring for patients as a nurse at a local hospital. Ms. Vidrine is expanding her commitment to healthcare by seeking to complete the graduate nursing program at UL Lafayette.

“Our board of directors understands what a sacrifice, both personally and financially, it is to complete the graduate nursing program,” says Amy Broussard, Executive Director of the Woman’s Foundation. “Each year we look forward to furthering our mission by assisting in the education of students who will give back to others in Acadiana through their care and compassion as nurses.” She continues, “This year we were excited to provide scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students.”

Upon the review of many qualified applicants, the committee also awarded scholarships to Madelyn Boone and Indra Raman.

Donations to the Frem Boustany Jr., M.D. Memorial Nursing Scholarship fund are accepted year round. Anyone interested in contributing should contact Amy Broussard at (337) 988-1816.

Members of the 2014 scholarship committee include: Jennifer Boustany, MD, Committee Chairman; Judith Kennedy, JD, Board President; Jeanne Billeaud, CPA; Debra Crowe, MD; Paulette Landry, APRN, C; Jennifer Lemoine, DNP, APRN and Victor Raxdale, CFP.
